A real estate attorney could be helpful when you sell your home

Jan 29, 2020 | Real Estate

You’ve been waiting to sell your home for many years. You build up equity and put a lot of time and money into updating your property. Now, you want to reap the rewards of your hard work and saving.

You plan to list your home on the market. You’ve been told that you can work with a real estate agent, but others have suggested that working with a real estate attorney is better.

Which is actually a better choice?

It’s a good idea to work with a real estate attorney instead of an agent for a few reasons. First, your attorney is a skilled negotiator and will work closely with you to make sure you get what you’re looking for during the sale of your home.

Second, your attorney knows the laws of the state. You may need to have them present at closing by law, depending on which state your property is in, and you may prefer to have them present to help you know your rights as a seller.

Finally, an attorney is able to help you in many complex situations. If the buyer sues, you face trouble with the sale because of liens or a joint sale or have other issues, then having your attorney present may be better than working with a real estate agent alone.
